Take Acyclovir 200mg by mouth with or without food, usually 2 to 5 times daily or as directed by your doctor. It is very important to continue taking Acyclovir 200mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Unless your doctor directs you otherwise, drink plenty of fluids while taking Acyclovir 200mg.
If you are using the liquid form of Acyclovir 200mg, shake the container well before pouring each dose. Measure the dose carefully using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.

Acyclovir 200mg works best when the amount of drug in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take Acyclovir 200mg at evenly spaced intervals. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day.
Acyclovir 200mg works best when started at the first sign of an outbreak as directed by your doctor.
Do not take more or less of Acyclovir 200mg than prescribed or stop taking it even for a short time unless directed to do so by your doctor. A very serious allergic reaction to Acyclovir 200mg is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
