Before taking Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other ACE inhibitors (e.g., benazepril, lisinopril); or to other calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem, nifedipine); or if you have any other allergies.

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.  Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: very low blood pressure, certain heart problems (e.g., second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, sick sinus syndrome without a pacemaker, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, Lown-Ganong-Levine syndrome, severe heart failure), a history of an allergic reaction which included swelling of the face/neck (angioedema).

Before using Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil), tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, certain kinds of kidney disease (e.g., renal artery stenosis, kidney failure, kidney dialysis), brain tumors, certain types of heart problems (e.g., aortic stenosis, cardiomyopathy, angina, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, mild to moderate heart failure), neuromuscular problems (e.g., muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis), untreated low blood sodium, untreated high blood potassium, loss of too much body water (dehydration), strokes.

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) may make you dizzy; use caution while engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) may raise your blood potassium levels.  This effect may rarely cause serious side effects such as muscle weakness or a slow/irregular heartbeat.  Tell your doctor immediately if these effects occur.  Limit foods high in potassium such as bananas and potatoes.  Do not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless approved by your doctor.

Verapamil makes alcohol affect you more strongly and for a longer time.  Limit alcoholic beverages while using Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil).

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil).

Caution is advised when using Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to its side effects, especially dizziness.

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to the risk for harm to an unborn baby.  Consult your doctor for more details.  (See also Warning section.)

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant.  Breast-feeding while using Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) is not recommended.  Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Store at room temperature at 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.  Do not store in the bathroom.  Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.  Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company for more details about how to safely discard your product.

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).  Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

This product contains two medications, trandolapril and verapamil.  Trandolapril is called an ACE inhibitor.  Verapamil is called a calcium channel blocker.  They both work by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.  They are used together when one drug is not controlling your blood pressure.

Take Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) by mouth, usually once or twice daily with food or as directed by your doctor.  Swallow Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) whole.  Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets.  Doing so can destroy the long action of the drug and may increase your risk of side effects.

Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while being treated with Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.  Grapefruit products can increase the amount of Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) in your body.  Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.  The dosage is based on your age, medical condition and response to therapy.  If you have severe liver or kidney problems, your dosage may need to be adjusted.

Use Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) regularly in order to get the most benefit from it.  To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.  It is important to continue taking Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) even if you feel well.  Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.  It may take up to several weeks before the full benefit of Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) takes effect.

Do not stop taking Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) without first consulting your doctor.  Some conditions may become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped.  Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Inform your doctor if your condition worsens (e.g., your routine blood pressure readings increase).

Dizziness, nausea, headache, tiredness, facial flushing, dry mouth, cough, and constipation may occur as your body adjusts to the medication.  If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

To prevent constipation, maintain a diet adequate in fiber, drink plenty of water, and exercise.  If you become constipated while using Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil), consult your pharmacist for help in selecting a stool softener.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.  Many people using Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: swelling of the ankles/feet, muscle/joint aches, muscle cramps, weakness, shortness of breath, persistent tiredness, fast/irregular/very slow heartbeat, unusual dreams, mental/mood changes (e.g., anxiety), decreased sexual ability, fainting, diarrhea.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: severe constipation, sudden dizziness/fainting, severe/persistent nausea, seizures, signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, persistent sore throat), change in the amount of urine.

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) may rarely cause serious (possibly fatal) liver problems.  Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following rare but very serious side effects: yellowing of the eyes/skin, dark urine, stomach/abdominal pain, persistent tiredness, persistent nausea.

A very serious allergic reaction to Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.  Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling of any part of the face/neck, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list of possible side effects.  If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Your healthcare professionals (e.g., doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for it.  Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: certain anti-arrhythmic drugs (e.g., disopyramide, dofetilide), ranolazine.

If you are currently using any of these medications, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.

Before using Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil), it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: anesthesia drugs (e.g., halothane), drugs affecting the bone marrow (e.g., azathioprine, trimethoprim-containing products), beta blockers (e.g., metoprolol, propranolol, timolol), alpha blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin), flecainide, intravenous calcium, certain anti-cancer drugs (e.g., adriamycin, cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, paclitaxel, procarbazine, vincristine, vindesine), corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone) when given with anti-cancer drugs, colchicine, digoxin, drugs for diabetes (e.g., glyburide, insulin), lithium, neuromuscular blockers (e.g., vecuronium, succinylcholine), certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, celecoxib), aspirin, drugs affecting the immune system (e.g., cyclosporine, sirolimus, tacrolimus), drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) from your body (e.g., azole antifungals such as itraconazole, barbiturates such as phenobarbital, cimetidine, macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin, rifamycins such as rifampin/rifabutin, St.  Johns wort), any medications that affect the removal of verapamil from your system (e.g., eplerenone, erythromycin, quinidine, theophylline, statins including simvastatin, certain anti-seizure drugs including carbamazepine), other anti-seizure medications such as phenytoin, drugs that may increase your potassium level (e.g., potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone/triamterene/amiloride, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, drospirenone).

Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil) can slow down the removal of other drugs from your body by affecting certain liver enzymes.  These affected drugs include midazolam, triazolam, and tizanidine, among others.  Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

A very serious reaction may occur if you are getting injections for bee/wasp sting allergy (desensitization) and are also taking Tarka (trandolapril/verapamil).  Make sure all your doctors know which medicines you are using.

Low-dose aspirin, as prescribed by your doctor for reasons such as heart attack or stroke prevention (usually at dosages of 81-325 milligrams per day), should be continued.  Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products, diet aids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs-NSAIDs for pain/fever reduction) because they may contain ingredients that could increase your blood pressure or cause a fast heartbeat (e.g., pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, chlorpheniramine, diphenhydramine, clemastine, ibuprofen, naproxen).  Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products.

This document does not contain all possible interactions.  Therefore, before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all the products you use.  Keep a list of all your medications with you, and share the list with your doctor and pharmacist.

"Three years ago, my doctor started me on Combivent for chronic bronchitis and suggested I contact Universal Drugstore.  I ordered at that time and I am still receiving my medication from Universal Drugstore.  I can't say enough about the extra fine service I have had with UDS.  I have recommended UDS to several people."
