Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: liver problems, history of a certain muscle problem (rhabdomyolysis), fever and confusion caused by any drug.
Before using Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: alcoholism, low blood pressure, severe kidney problems, Parkinson's with severe movement problems.
To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg may make you dizzy or drowsy. Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness. Avoid alcoholic beverages.
Caution is advised when using Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug, especially drowsiness and confusion.
During pregnancy, Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is not known if Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Store at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company for more details about how to safely discard your product.

Take Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg by mouth with or without food, usually 3 times daily or as directed by your doctor. You will start on a lower dose. Your doctor may increase your dosage after 3 weeks if he or she thinks that you will benefit from the higher dose.
Dosage of Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.
Use Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. Do not suddenly stop taking Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg unless instructed to do so by your doctor. Doing so may cause your Parkinson's symptoms to become much worse.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens (e.g., your Parkinson's symptoms are not controlled).

Nausea/vomiting, increased abnormal/uncontrolled/fast movements, dizziness upon standing, fainting, headache, sleepiness, trouble sleeping, increased number of dreams, abnormal sweating, tiredness, muscle cramps, dry mouth, constipation, gas, and abdominal pain may occur. Diarrhea may occur between 2-12 weeks after you start the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg may develop serious side effects, but with frequent visits to your doctor, this risk can be minimized.
Your urine may change color (e.g., increased yellow color). This effect is harmless.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion, hallucinations, depression, hostility, nervousness), fever, muscle stiffness, problems urinating, lower/mid-back pain, uncontrolled urination, fast/irregular heartbeat.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: easy bleeding/bruising, sore/painful/weak muscles, breathing problems, cough, pain with breathing.
A very serious allergic reaction to Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

If you miss a dose of Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: certain MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, tranylcypromine).
If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg.
Before using Tasmar (tolcapone) 200mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: isoproterenol, epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, dobutamine, methyldopa, apomorphine, isoetharine, bitolterol, probenecid, cholestyramine, erythromycin, rifampicin, ampicillin, chloramphenicol.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you also take drugs that may cause drowsiness or lower your blood pressure such as: antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine), anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives, hypnotics), muscle relaxants, other narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, tricyclics such as amitriptyline), tranquilizers.
