Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) may make you drowsy or tired. Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness. Limit alcoholic beverages.
Kidney function declines as you grow older. Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) is removed by the kidneys. Therefore, older adults may be at greater risk for side effects while using Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride).
During pregnancy, Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Based on information from a related drug, Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) may pass into breast milk. Therefore, breast-feeding while using Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Store at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Take Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) by mouth with or without food, usually once daily in the evening or as directed by your doctor.
Dosage of Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) is based on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or take Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) more often than directed. Children aged 6 to 11 years should not take more than two-and-a-half milligrams in a 24-hour period.
Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Drowsiness, tiredness, and dry mouth may occur. Fever or cough may also occur, especially in children. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

A serious allergic reaction to Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the tongue/lips/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

If you miss a dose of Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride), use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain ingredients that can cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist about using those products safely.
Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride) may interfere with certain laboratory tests (including allergy skin testing), possibly causing false test results. Make sure laboratory personnel and all your doctors know you use Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride).
