Before using Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: a certain structural heart problem (aortic stenosis), very low blood pressure, liver disease.
Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit alcoholic beverages.
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
Older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg, especially dizziness.
During pregnancy, Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is unknown if Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Storage temperature ranges differ according to different manufacturers, so consult your pharmacist for more information. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company for more details about how to safely discard your product.
Take Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Use Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
If used for angina, Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg must be taken regularly to be effective. It should not be used to treat angina when it occurs. Use other medications (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve an angina attack as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.
Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens (for example, your blood pressure readings remain high or increase, chest pain continues or worsens).
Dizziness, lightheadedness, swelling ankles/feet, flushing, or headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
To lower your risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat, fainting.
A very serious allergic reaction to Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

If you miss a dose of Norvasc (amlodipine) 5mg, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
