Vitamin B3 Complex Might Prevent Certain Miscarriages & Birth Defects

In a new study, the researchers have found the cause of many miscarriages and birth defects of the kidneys, spine, cleft palate, and heart. Most importantly, the researchers claim these could be prevented by something that’s not expensive and readily available: vitamin B3.

It is estimated that 3 percent of babies born in America suffer from a birth defect. Miscarriage is also common, with latest data revealing 23,000 miscarriages in 1 year.

The root cause of miscarriage is not so easy to determine. Often certain genetic factors or poor lifestyle is the key factor.

In the latest study, the researchers found that several miscarriages as well as birth defects occur because of deficiency in a particular compound called NAD. Its full form is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.

NAD plays a key role in energy production, improving cell survival, and assisting DNA repair. Certain genetic factors can inhibit its production, so could an unhealthy diet or a chronic disease like diabetes.

However, researchers also found that niacin, which is a vitaminB3 complex and can be taken as a dietary supplement, plays in NAD synthesis. Foods which have niacin include ginger, tarragon, turkey, and tuna.

Taking vitamin B3 supplements on a regular basis, according to the researchers, could prevent miscarriages as well as certain birth defects.
