Before taking Tinidazole 500mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other antibiotics (such as metronidazole); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using Tinidazole 500mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney dialysis, certain blood disorders (low blood cell counts).

Avoid alcoholic beverages and products containing propylene glycol while taking Tinidazole 500mg and for at least 3 days after finishing this medicine because severe stomach upset/cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache, and flushing may occur.

Tinidazole 500mg may make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana.

Tinidazole 500mg may cause live bacterial vaccines (such as typhoid vaccine) to not work as well. Do not have any immunizations/vaccinations while using Tinidazole 500mg unless your doctor tells you to.

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

During pregnancy, Tinidazole 500mg should be used only when clearly needed. It is not recommended for use during the first 3 months of pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor right away.

Tinidazole 500mg passes into breast milk and could have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Breast-feeding is not recommended while using Tinidazole 500mg and for at least 3 days after finishing this medicine. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.

Tinidazole 500mg is an antibiotic that is used to treat certain types of vaginal infections (bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis). It is also used to treat certain types of parasite infections (giardiasis, amebiasis). It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria and parasites.

This antibiotic treats only certain bacterial and parasitic infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.

Take Tinidazole 500mg by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. To prevent stomach upset, take Tinidazole 500mg with food. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For children, the dosage is also based on weight.

For the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take Tinidazole 500mg at the same time(s) every day.

Continue to take Tinidazole 500mg until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a short time. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection.

Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse.

Bitter/metallic taste in your mouth, nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Tinidazole 500mg may cause your urine to turn darker in color. This effect is harmless and will disappear when the medication is stopped.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed Tinidazole 500mg because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using Tinidazole 500mg do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: signs of a new infection (such as sore throat that doesn't go away, fever), easy bruising/bleeding.

Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: unsteadiness, seizures, numbness/tingling of arms/legs.

Use of Tinidazole 500mg for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new yeast infection. Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge, or other new symptoms.

A very serious allergic reaction to Tinidazole 500mg is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

If you miss a dose of Tinidazole 500mg, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Some products that may interact with Tinidazole 500mg include: alcohol-containing products (such as cough and cold syrups, aftershave), products containing propylene glycol, lopinavir/ritonavir solution, lithium.

Do not take Tinidazole 500mg if you are also taking disulfiram or if you have taken disulfiram within the last 2 weeks.

Although most antibiotics are unlikely to affect hormonal birth control such as pills, patch, or ring, a few antibiotics (such as rifampin, rifabutin) can decrease their effectiveness. This could result in pregnancy. If you use hormonal birth control, ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Tinidazole 500mg may interfere with certain lab tests, possibly causing false test results. Make sure lab personnel and all your doctors know you use Tinidazole 500mg.
