Selzentry Helps Treat the Following Conditions:

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

The HIV virus attacks the immune system and weakens the body’s natural ability to fight illness. Between two to four weeks after infection, most people experience flu-like symptoms. HIV diagnosing is carried out by a blood test.

HIV patients who receive quick and appropriate treatment can enjoy a high quality of life. If left untreated, HIV can progress to AIDS.

Marketed Internationally as Celsentri

In some countries, Selzentry is sold under the brand name Celsentri.

Selzentry Active Ingredient

General Drug Information

What is Selzentry and What Is It Used For?

Selzentry is prescribed together with other medications to HIV patients. Selzentry helps to decrease the amount of HIV in the body, improving immune system function and reducing the risk complications like cancer and various infections.

Selzentry is not a cure for HIV, and patients must take precautions to ensure that they do not spread the virus to others. This means taking Selzentry regularly (and other HIV medications) exactly as prescribed. Use reliable protection methods when engaging in sexual activity. Patients should never share personal items (e.g. toothbrushes, razors, needles, syringes) that have possibly been in contact with blood or other bodily fluids.

Usage and Application

Before sourcing Selzentry online, please read the medication guide provided by your doctor or pharmacist. Those using Selzentry in liquid form should carefully read the instructions. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist in the event of any questions.

Prescribed dosage depends on a patient’s medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications they are taking. In children, dosage is weight-dependent. Patients should tell their doctor about all other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements they are taking.

Most patients are directed to take Selzentry twice a day, with or without food.

The tablets should not be split, crushed, or chewed. However, it is possible to do so with many other immediate-release drugs. Patients should follow their doctor’s instructions on how to take Selzentry.

Patients using the liquid form of Selzentry should measure doses using a special measuring device. It is not appropriate to use a household spoon.

Patients must take this medication exactly as prescribed. For the best effect, Selzentry should be taken at evenly-spaced intervals. To help patients remember, the medication should be taken at the same time each day.

Do not take larger or smaller doses than prescribed – even for a short period of time – as doing so can lead to resistance and negative side effects.

Considerations Before Taking Selzentry

Before starting treatment, patients need to discuss the possibility of allergic reactions to Selzentry.

With a physician, discuss the patient’s medical history, especially relating to kidney disease, liver disease (e.g. hepatitis B, hepatitis C), low blood pressure, heart disease, and previous heart attacks.

Selzentry may cause dizziness. Alcohol or marijuana can increase this effect. Patients should not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until they can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages and discuss marijuana use with your doctor.

Patients should get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position in order to reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness.

During pregnancy, Selzentry should only be used when needed. This medicine can lower the risk of transferring HIV from a mother to the fetus. Pregnant women should discuss the risks and benefits of Selzentry treatment with their doctor.

It is not known whether Selzentry passes into breast milk, though mothers with HIV should not breastfeed as breast milk can transmit the virus to their babies.

Delayed and Omitted Doses

Patients who miss a dose of Selzentry should take it as soon as they remember. If this happens near the time of the next dose, patients should skip the missed dose and proceed as usual. Patients should not double their dose to catch up.

Other Medications and Selzentry

Drug interactions may change the way Selzentry works, and can increase the risk of side effects. Before starting treatment, patients need to discuss the full list of medications and supplements they are taking with their doctor. Patients should not change their dose or stop taking this medication unless their physician advises them to do so.

Some products that may negatively interact with Selzentry include weight loss drug Xenical and the herb St. John's wort.

Adverse Reactions

Many patients are able to take Selzentry without serious side effects.

Common side effects include cough, tiredness, and stomach pain. Some patients may experience lightheadedness and dizziness. Patients should alert their doctor should these changes persist or worsen.

Selzentry is designed to strengthen the immune system to fight the HIV virus. As this happens, the immune system may begin to fight existing infections patients, causing symptoms of these infections to reappear.

A patient’s immune system may become overactive at the beginning of treatment or even months later. Patients should seek medical help if they experience unexplained weight loss, severe tiredness, joint pain, persisting muscle weakness, and severe headaches. Additional symptoms may include vision changes, as well as numbness and/or tingling of the extremities.

Users may experience signs of infection: fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, trouble breathing, coughing, and skin sores that don’t heal.

Immune hyperfunction could also lead to an overactive thyroid. Symptoms may include irritability, nervousness, heat intolerance, irregular heartbeat, bulging eyes, and an unusual growth in the neck (known as a goiter).

Patients should monitor for signs of a certain Guillain-Barre syndrome, a nerve condition which can include trouble breathing, swallowing, facial drooping, paralysis, and trouble speaking.

Seek immediate medical attention in the event of pain in the chest, jaw, and/or left arm.

Serious allergic reactions to Selzentry are rare, yet patients should be aware of allergic symptoms such as rash, itching and swelling (tongue/throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list of side effects. For more information, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

How to Store Selzentry

Selzentry should be stored at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep away from children and pets.

Unwanted medication should be disposed of properly and should not be poured into drains or flushed down the toilet. Patients should consult a pharmacist or their local waste disposal company to find out more about safe disposal methods.
