Cyklokapron

The active ingredient in Cyklokapron is tranexamic acid. Cyklokapron’s mechanism of action helps the blood clot move effectively. It is an antifibrinolytic, which means it inhibits the breakdown of fibrin, a protein that stabilizes blood clots. Normally, the body produces an enzyme called plasmin, which dissolves clots; Cyklokapron prevents plasmin synthesis from plasminogen. This helps stop clots from breaking down prematurely and minimizes or prevents excessive bleeding after surgery.

However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Cyklokapron:

Cyklokapron is administered as an infusion into a vein soon before your tooth extraction. You may need to continue taking Cyklokapron for up to 8 days following.

A healthcare provider will give you your first dose and may instruct you on how to use the drug appropriately on your own.

Read and carefully follow any instructions for use that come with your medicine. If you don't understand all of the directions, ask your doctor or chemist.

Your vision may need to be examined when using tranexamic acid.

Some mild or common side effects of tranexamic acid include:

• Nausea.
• Vomiting.
• Diarrhea.
• Low blood pressure.
• Dizziness.
• Feeling unusually happy.

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Cyklokapron. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to the medication, such as hives, skin rash, or swelling.
• Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in the leg) and pain, swelling, or redness in your leg.
• A blood clot in the lung (pulmonary embolism) with chest pain and trouble breathing.
• Vision changes.

Before starting Cyklokapron, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including:

• Problems with blood vessels in your eyes.
• Color blindness.
• History of blood clots, strokes, or bleeding in your brain.
• Kidney disease.
• Leukemia.
• Kidney infection or bladder infection.

• Active intravascular clotting.
• Subarachnoid hemorrhage, which could increase the risk of cerebral edema/infarction.
• Hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

Cyklokapron (tranexamic acid) begins acting immediately. When taken orally, it typically begins to stop bleeding within 2-3 hours; however, an injection works much faster, generally within 30 minutes to an hour. Its effects last several hours, depending on the amount and method of administration.

When Cyklokapron is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

• Any type of medication to treat a bleeding episode.
• Factor IX complex (Bebulin, Bebulin VH, Profilnine, and others) or anti-inhibitor coagulant complex (Feiba, Kcentra, and others), which is a medicine used to decrease bleeding and help form blood clots.
• This medication should not be used if you are also using a combination hormonal contraception, as it may increase your risk of developing a blood clot, heart attack, or stroke.

Cyklokapron (tranexamic acid) is available in the following formulations and dosage forms:

Tranexamic Acid Injection (IV solution): 100 mg/mL, delivered in single-dose vials or ampules.

If you miss a dosage of this medication, take it right away. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing plan. Do not duplicate the doses.

Store at room temperature and keep out of reach of children.

You should not discontinue the use of tranexamic acid (Cyklokapron) without consulting your doctor. Because it is frequently prescribed in the short term to control active bleeding, your doctor will normally urge you to discontinue use once the bleeding has been managed or the prescribed course has been completed.
