What is a generic medication?

Generic medications are significantly discounted copies of brand name medication that have the same active ingredients, intended use, dosage, side effects, effects, and route of administration as the original brand name medication. In other words, generic medications have the same pharmacological effects as their brand-name counterparts. Over half of all prescribed medications are for generic medications.

Norpace Drug Information

  • Norpace Overview

Norpace is used to treat certain types of serious (possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat, such as persistent ventricular tachycardia. Norpace is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. Disopyramide is known as an anti-arrhythmic drug. It works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Treating an irregular heartbeat can decrease the risk for blood clots, and this effect can reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke.

  • Norpace Warnings

Though Norpace often gives great benefits to people with irregular heartbeat, it may rarely cause a serious new irregular heartbeat. Therefore, when starting treatment with Norpace, your doctor may recommend that you stay in the hospital for proper monitoring and emergency medical treatment if needed. Talk with your doctor about the benefits and risks of taking Norpace.

  • How to Use Norpace

Take Norpace by mouth with or without food exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you are taking the immediate-release form, you will usually take it 4 times daily or as directed by your doctor. If you are taking the extended-release form, you will usually take it twice a day or as directed by your doctor. Swallow extended-release capsules whole. Do not crush or chew extended-release capsules or tablets. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects. Also, do not split extended-release tablets unless they have a score line and your doctor or pharmacist tells you to do so. Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing. Dosage of Norpace is based on your age, kidney and liver function, medical condition, and response to treatment. Use Norpace regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

  • Norpace Precautions

Before taking disopyramide, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. Norpace may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using Norpace, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, diabetes, glaucoma, kidney disease, liver problems, myasthenia gravis, urinary problems (such as due to enlarged prostate, urinary retention). Norpace may rarely make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis). Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using Norpace. Disopyramide may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). QT prolongation can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that need medical attention right away. The risk of QT prolongation may be increased if you have certain medical conditions or are taking other drugs that may cause QT prolongation. Before using disopyramide, certain heart problems (heart failure, slow heartbeat, QT prolongation in the EKG), family history of certain heart problems (QT prolongation in the EKG, sudden cardiac death). Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood may also increase your risk of QT prolongation. This risk may increase if you use certain drugs (such as diuretics/"water pills") or if you have conditions such as severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Talk to your doctor about using disopyramide safely. Norpace may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially if you have diabetes, heart failure, decreased kidney/liver function, or nutrition problems. Tell your doctor right away if you have symptoms of low blood sugar including sudden sweating, shaking, fast heartbeat, hunger, blurred vision, dizziness, or tingling hands/feet. If you have diabetes, your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet may need to be adjusted. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of Norpace, especially urination problems and QT prolongation (see above). During pregnancy, Norpace should be used only when clearly needed. Rarely, disopyramide may cause early labor during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Norpace passes into breast milk, and the effect on a nursing infant is unknown. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

  • Norpace Misdose

If you miss a dose of Norpace, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

  • Norpace Interactions

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval.fingolimod, certain calcium channel blockers (diltiazem and verapamil). Many drugs besides disopyramide may affect the heart rhythm (QT prolongation), including amiodarone, dofetilide, flecainide, ketoconazole, pimozide, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin, erythromycin), and certain quinolone antibiotics (such as sparfloxacin), among others. (See also Precautions section.) Other medications can affect the removal of disopyramide from your body, which may affect how disopyramide works. Examples include phenytoin, rifampin, saquinavir, among others.

  • Norpace Side Effects

    What are Norpace side effects?

Side effects are physical, mental or emotional symptoms which occur in addition to or outside of the desired effect of a therapeutic treatment such as an over-the-counter or prescribed drug or medication. Individuals may also experience side effects from Norpace as a result of an interaction with other medications.

    Side Effects of Norpace

Also, an individual’s state of general physical health and seriousness of the disease or illness as well as an increase or decrease in dosage may lead to side effects. Further, side effects from Norpace may also occur as a result of an interaction with certain herbal supplements, foods or drinks.

Prescription drug side effects can be serious and may cause patients to stop the treatment.
