How do you give an Invega injection?

Invega injections are available as Sustenna (monthly), Trinza (every 3 months), and Hafyera (every 6 months). All are for intramuscular use only and must be administered by a healthcare professional.
Invega Sustenna (paliperidone palmitate)
- Use the prefilled syringe kit with two safety needles
- Shake vigorously for at least 10 seconds to mix the suspension
- Select needle length based on injection site (deltoid or gluteal) and patient weight
- Administer as a single, slow intramuscular injection into the deltoid or gluteal muscle
- Oral antipsychotics can be tapered off after starting Sustenna
Invega Trinza (paliperidone palmitate)
- Only start after at least 4 months of Sustenna, with the last two maintenance doses identical
- Hold syringe tip pointing up and shake loosely for 15 seconds
- Choose needle length for deltoid or gluteal based on patient weight
- Inject slowly as a single intramuscular dose into the deltoid or gluteal muscle
Invega Hafyera (paliperidone palmitate)
- Requires prior treatment: either four months of Sustenna (last two doses 156 mg or 234 mg) or one full Trinza cycle (546 mg or 819 mg)
- With cap on, shake syringe tip pointing up quickly for 15 seconds, rest, then shake another 15 seconds
- Intended for gluteal intramuscular injection only
- Inject deeply and slowly into the muscle, avoiding blood vessels
