How long does Activella take to work?

Activella is a brand-name combination medication containing a progestin (norethindrone acetate) and an estrogen (estradiol). It is used to treat symptoms of low estrogen levels, such as night sweats, hot flashes, and vaginal dryness in postmenopausal women. It can also be used to prevent bone loss (osteoporosis) in women who have reached menopause.

Everyone’s experience of taking Activella will be different. While you may start feeling a difference within a few days or weeks, it typically takes longer for it to achieve its full effects. In a 12-week randomized clinical trial, Activella 1.0 mg/0.5 mg was compared to 1 mg of estradiol and to placebo. The average number and intensity of hot flushes were significantly reduced from baseline to week 4 and week 12 in those taking Activella when compared to placebo. For some people, however, it may take up to 3 months for them to see a significant improvement in their menopause symptoms.
