What foods should be avoided when taking crestor?

Crestor (rosuvastatin) and other statins lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and modestly raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol. To maximize their benefit and reduce cardiovascular risk, pairing medication with a heart‑healthy diet is essential.

Foods to limit or avoid

  • Trans‑fat–rich baked goods: doughnuts, pastries, crackers made with partially hydrogenated oils
  • Saturated‑fat spreads: butter, lard (choose olive, canola, or vegetable oil instead)
  • Fast food and fried items: pizza, burgers, fries, fried chicken, chips
  • Processed fatty meats: bacon, sausage, hot dogs, deli meats, poultry with skin
  • Full‑fat dairy: whole milk, cream, ice cream, full‑fat yogurt and cheese (opt for low‑fat or fat‑free)
  • Tropical oils: coconut oil, palm oil (use olive, flaxseed, peanut, or canola oil)

Why avoid these foods?

High levels of saturated and trans fats raise LDL cholesterol and promote arterial plaque buildup. Reducing these in your diet helps Crestor work more effectively and lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Heart‑healthy substitutions

  • Use olive or canola oil instead of butter
  • Choose lean proteins like fish, skinless poultry, beans, and legumes
  • Snack on fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains
  • Swap full‑fat dairy for low‑fat or nonfat versions

Additional tips

  • Read labels for “partially hydrogenated oils” and trans fats
  • Cook at home to control ingredients and portion sizes
  • Combine dietary changes with at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week
