Lyumjev

The active ingredient in Lyumjev is insulin lispro-aabc. Lyumjev (insulin lispro) is a long-acting insulin formulation. Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone that regulates blood sugar levels and it aids your body in absorbing and storing sugar from the bloodstream following a meal. Insulin also prevents the liver from producing glucose (sugar). However, patients with diabetes are unable to produce insulin, produce insufficient insulin, or do not respond to insulin as expected.

Lyumjev (insulin lispro) is a fast-acting insulin. The insulin dose is injected during or shortly after a meal to keep blood sugar levels from rising too high. It can also be utilized with a suitable insulin pump.

However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Lyumjev:

• Lyumjev starts acting quickly. Inject (subcutaneous) Lyumjev before or within 20 minutes after starting a meal.
• Lyumjev is administered under the skin using a syringe and needle or an injection pen (KwikPen, Junior KwikPen, or Tempo Pen).
• Understand the type and strength of insulin you take. Do not modify the type or amount of insulin you take unless your doctor instructs you to. If you use multiple types of insulin, the amount of insulin you require and the ideal time to take it may fluctuate.
• Check your insulin label every time you give an injection to ensure you're using the right insulin.
• Lyumjev comes in U-100 (100 units of insulin) and U-200 (200 units/mL) insulin strengths. Lyumjev U-200 contains 2 times as much insulin (200 units/mL) in 1 mL as Lyumjev U-100 (100 units/mL).
• Lyumjev U-100 can be administered with an insulin pump by infusing it continuously under the skin into the area of your body specified in the pump's instructions. Lyumjev U-200 cannot be delivered with an insulin pump.
• Prepare your injection just when you're ready to administer it. Do not use if the drug is foggy, has changed color, or contains particles. Contact your chemist for new medication.
• If you suffer from severe hypoglycemia, your doctor may prescribe a glucagon injection kit. Make sure your family or close friends know how to administer this injection in an emergency.
• Look for indicators of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or low blood glucose levels, such as increased thirst or urine.

The most common side effects of Lyumjev seen in clinical trials as compared to placebo include:

• Injection-site reactions.
• Lipodystrophy
• Low blood sugar.
• Common colds.
• Weight gain.
• Upper respiratory tract infection.
• Urinary tract infection.
• Trouble breathing.

• Severe low blood sugar symptoms include dizziness, shakiness, confusion, irritability or anxiety, fainting, sweating, intense hunger, and an inability to think coherently.
• Ketoacidosis (high ketone levels in the blood) causes nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fatigue, thirst, dry mouth, fruity breath, and difficulty breathing.
• Symptoms of severe potassium deficiency include weakness, muscle cramps or twitches, constipation, an irregular heartbeat, fatigue, and difficulty breathing.
• Severe allergic reactions include skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, and difficulty breathing.

• Liver disease.
• Kidney disease.
• Heart problems or heart failure.
• Low potassium levels.
• Avoid drinking alcohol.

During episodes of hypoglycemia.

Hypersensitivity to drugs or excipients.

Lyumjev (insulin lispro) is classified as a quick-acting (or rapid-acting) insulin. Studies reveal that it begins to operate after around 15 minutes. This is why it is administered with the first bite of a meal or within 20 minutes of beginning a meal.

When Lyumjev is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

• Thiazolidinediones.
• Medicine that contains pioglitazone or rosiglitazone. Taking certain oral diabetes medicines while you are using insulin may increase your risk of serious heart problems.
• Do not take Lyumjev or Humalog if you have an allergy to insulin lispro-aabc, Humalog, or any of the ingredients in Lyumjev or Humalog.

Lyumjev (insulin lispro) should be injected under the skin in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm, with the first bite of a meal or within 20 minutes of commencing a meal.

Lyumjev (insulin lispro) can be administered intravenously by a healthcare professional. The dosage is determined by your type of diabetes and body weight.
