Robinul

(Glycopyrrolate)

The active ingredient in Robinul, Robinul Forte, or Cuvposa is glycopyrrolate. It is an anticholinergic drug that inhibits the production of acetylcholine in the body. Like other anticholinergic agents, Robinul reduces acid production in your stomach by blocking acetylcholine, which helps to ease stomach ulcer symptoms.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Robinul. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Robinul:

• Take this medication only as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may adjust your dose multiple times to determine what works best for you.
• This medication comes with a patient information insert. Please read and follow the instructions in the insert carefully. If you have any questions, ask your doctor.
• Take this medication at least an hour before or two hours after a meal.
• Use a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup to accurately measure the oral liquid. The normal household teaspoon may not hold the appropriate amount of liquid.
• Make sure your hands are completely dry before handling the orally disintegrating tablet. Don't open the blister.

The most common side effects of Robinul include:

• Blurred vision.
• Drowsiness.
• Dry mouth.
• Constipation.
• Nervousness.
• Dry skin.
• Urinary retention.

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Robinul. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Glaucoma worsening symptoms include dilated pupils, eye pain, and redness.
• Toxic megacolon symptoms include stomach pain, swelling or bloating, fever, bloody diarrhoea, rapid heartbeat, and confusion.
• Allergic reaction to the medication.
• Worsening of other health conditions, such as paralytic ileus (bowel blockage), congestive heart failure, high blood pressure (hypertension), cardiac arrhythmias (including bradycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), or other cardiovascular conditions.

Before starting Robinul, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions.

• Glaucoma or other eye conditions.
• Robinul makes you sweat less, which might lead to fever or heat stroke in hot weather. Take Robinul with caution when the weather is hot. To help with this, keep yourself cool by resting in the shade, sipping cold water, and taking pauses while exercising.
• Stomach blockage, especially if you have an ileostomy or colostomy.
• If you have an inflamed colon (ulcerative colitis), taking greater doses of Robinul can cause your stomach and intestinal muscles to slow down, potentially leading to life-threatening intestinal problems.
• Let your healthcare provider know if you have renal impairment.
• Use caution in patients with hiatal hernia with reflux esophagitis.
• Coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, or hypertension.
• Hyperthyroidism.

• Glaucoma.
• Urine flow is blocked.
• Stomach blockage.
• Loss of mobility in the gut muscles of the elderly.
• Ulcerative colitis is an intestinal inflammation.
• During periods of severe blood loss, the heart becomes unstable.
• Abnormal muscle weakening (myasthenia gravis).
• Hypersensitivity to the medication.

Following intramuscular administration, Robinul will start working in 15 to 30 minutes, with peak effects occurring within 30 to 45 minutes. These effects will typically last 2 to 4 hours.

When Robinul is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

• Amantadine.
• Potassium chloride.
• Pyridostigmine.
• Glycopyrronium.
• Neostigmine.
• Antidepressants.
• Muscle relaxants, such as carisoprodol (Soma), cyclobenzaprine, or tizanidine (Zanaflex).
• Atropine.

The two dosage forms are oral or intravenous.

Glycopyrrolate (Robinul) Oral Tablets

The typical starting dose is 1 mg taken orally three times per day. The maximum daily dosage is 8 mg. Your doctor will work with you to adjust your dose based on your symptoms and adverse reactions.

Glycopyrrolate can also be injected into the muscle to treat stomach ulcers in those who cannot take oral pills. It is also used as an anaesthetic in surgery.

Store at room temperature and keep out of reach of children.
