Rocklatan

The active ingredients in Rocklatan are netarsudil, a Rho-kinase inhibitor, and latanoprost, a prostaglandin. Both drugs’ mechanism of action is to help drain fluid from the eyes and lower eye pressure.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Product information, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Rocklatan. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Rocklatan:

1. Wash your hands before and after each use.

2. Shake the bottle well, then twist open.

3. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch your eye, fingers, or any other surface to avoid contamination.

4. To apply the drops, tilt your head up and pull down on your lower eyelid of the affected eye while looking up. Then, squeeze the bottle to release one drop of the solution into your eye.

5. Following administration, close your eyes gently and hold pressure on your tear duct (inner corner of your eye, by your nose) for 30 seconds. Then repeat for the other eye if needed.

6. If you use more than one eye drop, wait at least 5 minutes between administrations.

7. It is recommended to apply the drops in the evening due to side effects (blurred vision) and increased contact time during sleep.

8. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before administering these eye drops. You can put them back in 15 minutes after administration. The preservative benzalkonium chloride can discolor soft contact lenses.

9. Do not use past the expiration date.

The most common side effects of Rocklatan include:

• Red eyes.
• Dry eyes.
• Eye pain at the instillation site.
• Itchy eyes (pruritus).
• Increased lacrimation (watery/teary eyes).

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Rocklatan. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Color changes to the iris, eyelid, and eyelashes.
• Eyelash changes, including an increased number of eyelashes, increased length/ thickness, or disordered growth.
• Eye problems, including decreased vision, eye pain during administration, or blurry/ wavy vision consistent with macular edema.
• Eye infection, including bacterial keratitis, which is less likely if you take care not to touch the dropper tip to any surface/ skin.
• Serious life-threatening allergic reactions, which may present as skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, mouth, or tongue, and/ or trouble breathing (anaphylaxis).

Before starting Rocklatan, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, such as:

• Recent eye surgery.
• Problems with your cornea.
• Swelling in your eyes (iritis or uveitis).
• Lack of or a false lens in your eye.
• History of herpetic keratitis, or active herpes simplex keratitis.

Hypersensitivity or allergy to netardusil, latanoprost, or any inactive ingredients: boric acid, mannitol, sodium hydroxide, or the preservative benzalkonium chloride.

They should start to work within one day, but it may take several weeks to notice the full benefits.

When Rocklatan is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions.

• Eye drops containing thimerosal may cause precipitation. They should be used at least 5 minutes apart.
• Other eye drops containing prostaglandins, such as bimatoprost, should not be used at the same time as Rocklatan due to additive effects.

Brand name Rocklatan is provided as a 2.5mL ophthalmic solution containing 0.02% netardusil and 0.005% latanoprost.

It should be stored at room temperature away from the reach of children or pets.

No, there is no generic version available, but bimatoprost (Lumigan) or latanoprost (Xalatan) are available as single-ingredient eye drops.

Barring any serious side effects as listed above, you should not discontinue this medication unless under the advice of a physician.
