Oral Semaglutide
Daily tablet · GLP-1 receptor agonist · Prescription required
Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 receptor to reduce appetite and slow how quickly your stomach empties, so you feel full for longer. This daily tablet gives you the same active ingredient as the weekly injection, with no needles.
Daily tablet
One tablet a day. Starts low and is increased by your provider based on how you respond.

Same treatment on every plan. Longer plans cost less per 4 weeks, and you’re charged for the full term. You choose your plan during intake, once a provider approves treatment.
You'll begin the intake process — a 10-minute questionnaire about your health history, medications, and goals. A licensed U.S. provider reviews your questionnaire and prescribes only if medically appropriate. No charge until you're approved. Your provider may recommend a different treatment based on your health history.
What is oral semaglutide used for?
Providers prescribe it for weight management in patients who meet the clinical criteria. It mimics a hormone your body already makes after eating, which tells your brain you're full and slows digestion.
It's prescribed alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise, not in place of them.
Tablet or injection — which should I choose?
It's the same medication, delivered two ways. The tablet is for people who'd rather not use needles. The weekly injection is the more common choice and costs less. With the oral formulation, you're paying for the convenience of a tablet, rather than greater treatment effectiveness.
Taking a tablet every day takes more routine than one injection a week, so it's worth weighing up how you'd fit it into your day. Your provider can help you decide.
How do I take it?
Take one tablet each day, on an empty stomach, as directed on your prescription label. Your provider will start you on a low dose and gradually increase it based on how you respond. Always follow the instructions and guidance from your provider.

Who qualifies — and who doesn't
Adults 18 and over in eligible U.S. states with a BMI over 25. If you've recently been on a GLP-1, you may qualify for maintenance therapy with a lower BMI. A prescription isn't guaranteed. Your provider reviews your full history and current medications and decides whether it's right for you.
The typical requirements to take semaglutide for weight loss are a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related condition like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, or sleep apnea.
You may not be eligible if any of these apply to you:
- Pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to become pregnant
- End-stage kidney disease or severe liver disease
- Active or past eating disorder
- Current suicidal thoughts or a prior suicide attempt
- Active cancer treatment
- History of pancreatitis
- Organ transplant on anti-rejection medication
- Active gallbladder disease
- Severe stomach or bowel conditions, such as gastroparesis or IBD
- Personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2
Your provider will give you a full assessment.
Side effects and safety
Nausea is the most commonly reported side effect, especially when you start or increase your dose. Others include vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, headache, indigestion, and tiredness. Your provider can adjust your dose more slowly or prescribe something for nausea if needed.
Contact your provider right away if you have severe stomach pain that doesn't go away, signs of an allergic reaction, or a lump or swelling in your neck. Get emergency care for trouble breathing or swelling of the face or throat.

Why people choose oral semaglutide
Why people choose a daily tablet for their weight-loss treatment.

No needles
A small daily tablet instead of a weekly injection. No syringes, sharps, or injection sites to think about.

Feel full for longer
Semaglutide works on the hormone that signals fullness, helping reduce appetite and cravings between meals.

Support at every step
Your provider adjusts your dose over time, with lab testing and clinician check-ins included.
Individual results vary. Your provider will talk you through what to realistically expect.
Frequently asked questions
Visits, eligibility, labs, payment, and what happens if you want to stop.
Is this the same as Rybelsus, Ozempic, or Wegovy?
No. Those are FDA-approved products made by a manufacturer. This is a compounded medication that contains the same primary active ingredient and is prepared by a licensed pharmacy for your individual prescription. It isn't a generic or an identical product, and compounded medications are not FDA-approved.
What happens after I complete the eligibility quiz?
If you're eligible, you'll choose a video visit or, depending on your state, a prescription review without a video visit. You'll then sign up for your plan and create a password (your username is your email address).
Next, you'll complete your health history form, either right away or later through the portal. At your first appointment, your provider will discuss your goals, review your history, order any labs you need, and prescribe if appropriate. Follow-up visits are typically monthly at the start.
What type of provider will I see?
Licensed physicians and nurse practitioners who can prescribe medication, order labs, review your symptoms, and create a treatment plan for you.
How many tablets does each shipment cover?
Each 4-week shipment covers your daily dose. The strength of the dose will come directly from your provider.
Your prescription label and instructions show exactly how to take it.
Do I need lab work before I start?
No. Your provider will order any labs you need at your first visit. These may include a CMP, hemoglobin A1C, TSH, and a lipid panel.
Labs at any Quest Diagnostics location are included at no extra cost. If you've had labs in the last 24 months, you may not need new ones. You can upload them in the portal or email them to [email protected]. If you don't live near a Quest location, your provider can order a general lab requisition.
I'm already on a GLP-1. Can I switch?
Yes. You'll still complete a visit with a licensed provider, who will write a new prescription if it's right for you. Tell them what you take, your dose, and how long you've been on it, and they'll use that to decide where to start you, rather than resetting you to the beginning.
Strengths vary between pharmacies, so your dose may be written differently from what you're used to. Follow the instructions on your new label, and message your clinician if anything is unclear.
Do you offer maintenance therapy?
Yes, for most patients. To qualify, you need a prior diagnosis of obesity or overweight and to have used a GLP-1 medication in the past 12 months. Patients with a BMI under 22 are better treated in person, so they aren't eligible online.
If your BMI drops below 25 during treatment, your provider will reassess whether continuing is right for you. Some patients may qualify for maintenance therapy.
How soon will I notice anything?
Many people notice appetite changes within the first few weeks, but it varies, and your dose starts deliberately low. Your provider will talk you through what to expect at each stage.
Do you accept insurance?
No insurance is needed. Insurance doesn't cover the virtual visits for this program, and you pay one flat monthly price.
How do I pay?
You pay one flat monthly price, with no hidden fees, membership costs, or lab charges. Charges may appear on your statement as "OPNLP Universal Drugstore".
You can pause, skip, or delay a shipment from your account at any time before your next order is placed.
Will my information be private?
Yes. The service follows HIPAA-compliant security and privacy standards to keep your personal information safe and confidential.
What if I don't qualify?
If you haven't had your visit yet, you can cancel for a full refund of your current billing cycle. Your provider may suggest an alternative, or explain why treatment isn't appropriate for you right now.
What if I want to stop?
Your plan is month-to-month, and you can cancel anytime:
- Before your visit has happened: full refund for the current billing cycle.
- If new labs or clinical findings mean you're no longer eligible: cancel immediately (no refunds for previous months).
- If the cost of continuing isn't practical: cancel immediately (no refunds for previous months).
