Important information about Amjevita

The active ingredient in Amjevita is adalimumab-atto. Adalimumab-atto is a monoclonal antibody that belongs to a class of medications known as TNF-blockers. TNF, or tumor necrosis factor, is a chemical in the body that promotes inflammation and immune reactions. Its levels are often elevated in the conditions that Amjevita targets.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Amjevita. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Amjevita:

  • Amjevita should be used exactly as prescribed. Adult patients are usually on a standard dose given every other week. For children 2 years of age and older, the dosing will be weight-based.
  • Amjevita is a subcutaneous injection, meaning it is given right under the skin. How often you inject will be decided on by your prescriber. They should also review the correct injection technique with you before you give your first dose.
  • If you use Amjevita during pregnancy, tell your baby's doctor before your baby receives any vaccines.
  • Do not miss any doses. If you miss a dose, inject as soon as you remember and continue with your regular dosing schedule. If you miss a dose and are unsure how to proceed, contact your healthcare provider.

The most common side effects of Amjevita include:

  • Common cold & flu symptoms
  • Sinus infections
  • Injection site reactions such as redness, swelling, itching, bruising, or rash.
  • Headache
  • Rash
  • Nausea
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Amjevita. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

  • Symptoms of a tuberculosis infection such as a persistent cough, low-grade fever, and unexplained weight loss.
  • Symptoms of a hepatitis B infection or other liver problems such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, yellowing of the eyes or skin, fever, unusual fatigue, muscle aches, skin rash, dark urine, and clay-colored stools.
  • New onset of a numbing or tingling sensation, changes in vision, weakness in your arms or legs, and dizziness. These could be signs of a problem with your nervous system.
  • Signs of a blood problem, such as easy bruising or bleeding, fever, and a pale complexion.
  • Signs of new or worsening heart failure, such as shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, and swelling of the lower extremities.
  • New onset of chest pain, shortness of breath, joint pain, or a rash on your cheeks or arms that is worsened by the sun. These could be signs of a lupus-like syndrome.
  • New onset or worsening of psoriasis. Watch for new red scaly patches or raised bumps.
  • Signs of a severe allergic reaction such as hives, rash, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the face, lips, eyes, tongue, or throat.

These are not all of the possible side effects of Amjevita.
