Fiasp Vial

(Insulin Aspart)

Fiasp is a rapid-acting version of insulin aspart, a synthetic insulin that is used to treat adults and pediatric patients with diabetes mellitus. It is designed to mimic the body's natural insulin response to meals, which makes it known as a mealtime insulin. It helps with high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) in patients with both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Fiasp is similar to Novolog, but it is absorbed faster and works quicker.

Important information about Fiasp Vial

How does Fiasp Vial work?

The active ingredient in Fiasp is insulin aspart. Insulin aspart is a hormone that operates by lowering the sugar (glucose) levels in your blood. It aids in your body storing and absorbing sugar while also stopping glucose production in your liver.

Fiasp contains niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, and L-arginine, which allows your body to process it more quickly. It begins to work approximately 2.5 minutes after administration, making it faster to control blood sugar levels than other insulin products.

How do you use Fiasp Vial?

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Fiasp. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Fiasp:

  • Fiasp is a fast-acting insulin (a type of insulin that is released quickly into your bloodstream). This makes it crucial to take your dose of Fiasp right at the start of a meal or within 20 minutes after you start your meal
  • Change your injection site often to avoid developing red, bumpy, or thickened skin. The injection sites are all subcutaneous, which means they go under the skin. Typically, they include the upper arm, abdomen, or thigh

Always use a new needle for each new injection. If you are using a continuous insulin pump, ensure that you change the location of your injection site to avoid damaging your skin

  • You will be monitored by your healthcare professional throughout your treatment with Fiasp, including monitoring your blood glucose levels. This will influence the dosage you will receive throughout treatment
  • Always check that you are injecting yourself with the correct insulin pen, and read the label before injecting yourself to ensure you are getting the proper insulin dose as prescribed by your doctor
  • Never share a Fiasp Flextouch Pen, Penfill cartridge, or Penfill cartridge device with another friend or patient. Sharing needles increases the risk of blood-borne pathogens
  • Your Fiasp insulin injection will most likely be taken in combination with either an intermediate or long-acting insulin injection that will often be prescribed to be taken once a day. It may also be taken with oral medications such as metformin.

What are the side effects of Fiasp Vial?

The most common side effects of Fiasp seen in clinical trials as compared to placebo include:

  • Injection site reactions such as itching, rash, or lipodystrophy (pits in skin or thickened skin)
  • Weight gain
  • Common cold symptoms
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Fiasp. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

  • Severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • This may endanger your life
  • Some symptoms of low blood sugar include:
  • Being anxious or nervous
  • Feeling shaky
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Body chills or sweating
  • Confusion
  • Feeling sleepy
  • Low energy or weakness
  • Excessive hunger
  • Hypokalemia (low potassium levels). This may be life-threatening
  • If you are at risk of hypokalemia, ensure that you speak to your healthcare provider about monitoring your body’s potassium levels.Treatment plans can be made for those at risk of hypokalemia.
  • Severe allergic reaction. This has the possibility of including anaphylaxis.
  • Get medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms, including:
  • Swelling in your face, throat, or tongue
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Extreme drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Sweating
  • Heart failure
  • There is a higher possibility of developing heart failure if you are also taking Fiasp rapid-acting insulin with thiazolidinediones (TZDs) such as rosiglitazone and pioglitazone

These are not all of the possible side effects of Fiasp. You should always seek medical advice from your healthcare provider for any questions or concerns about your medical condition or treatment. Read all patient information, medication guides, or drug information sheets that come with this medication. You can also report adverse effects to the Food and Drug Administration at www.fda.gov/medwatch or 1-800-FDA-1088.
