They are designed for self-testing and work only with compatible FreeStyle Lite blood glucose monitoring systems, including the FreeStyle Lite blood glucose meter and the FreeStyle Freedom Lite meter. Manufactured by Abbott (Abbott FreeStyle), these test strips require no coding, use a very small blood sample, and are intended to support day-to-day diabetes management. Common use involves checking blood sugar levels at home using lancets and a lancing device.

Important information about FreeStyle Lite Test Strips

How does FreeStyle Lite Test Strips work?

The active component of FreeStyle Lite Test Strips is a glucose dehydrogenase–based enzyme system. When a small blood sample is applied to the strip, the enzyme reacts with glucose in the blood and generates an electrical signal. The FreeStyle Lite blood glucose meter reads this signal and converts it into a blood glucose result displayed on the screen. This allows people with diabetes to track blood sugar and share results with a healthcare professional as part of ongoing care.

How do you use FreeStyle Lite Test Strips?

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using FreeStyle Lite Test Strips. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of FreeStyle Lite Test Strips:

Wash and dry your hands before testing. You can use blood from the finger, hand, forearm, upper arm, calf, or thigh.

Insert a FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strip into a compatible meter.

Use a lancing device with a sterile lancet to obtain a blood sample.

Apply the blood sample to the test strip. The test strips have ZipWik Tabs that quickly and easily draw in the blood sample.

The meter will display test results within seconds.

Dispose of the used strip and lancet safely after testing.

If your reading shows less than 4 mmol/L on the blood sugar monitor, immediately consume 15g of sugar in the form of a cup of juice, a spoonful of honey, or 4 Dex4 glucose tablets. Recheck your sugar level in 15 minutes, and if it is still less than 4 mmol/L, take another 15g of sugar. Eat your next meal at the regular time, unless it is more than 1 hour away, then eat a snack.

What are the side effects of FreeStyle Lite Test Strips?

FreeStyle Lite Test Strips are not medications and do not cause side effects in the usual sense, other than pain from the lancet. However, inaccurate readings may occur if the strips are not used correctly.

Potential issues may include:

• Using test strips past the expiration date.

• Improper storage of the strips.

• Insufficient blood sample size.

• Using the strips with an incompatible meter.

If your test results do not match how you feel, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice. Read all patient information, medication guides, or drug information sheets that come with this medication. You can also report adverse effects to the Food and Drug Administration at www.fda.gov/medwatch or 1-800-FDA-1088.

What are the warnings or precautions for FreeStyle Lite Test Strips?

Before using FreeStyle Lite Test Strips, keep the following precautions in mind:

Use only with compatible meters in the FreeStyle Lite system.

Do not use with other meters such as Accu-Chek, OneTouch Ultra Blue, OneTouch Ultra Test Strip systems, or True Metrix.

Read the full product information and user guide before first use.

Do not reuse test strips.

Do not use test strips that are damaged or expired.

Use only fresh capillary whole blood samples.

These test strips are intended for blood glucose monitoring only and not for diagnosing diabetes.
