However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Prinivil:

• Prinivil is typically taken once daily with or without food.
• You may require frequent blood tests and regular blood pressure checks.
• If you are experiencing persistent diarrhea or vomiting, or if you are perspiring more than normal, give your doctor a call. When taking Prinivil, you run the risk of becoming dehydrated. Kidney failure, an electrolyte imbalance, or extremely low blood pressure might result from this.
• Prinivil can be taken alone or along with other medications like beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers.

The most common side effects of lisinopril include:

• Dizziness.
• Lower blood pressure.
• Headaches.
• Sore throat.

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Prinivil. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Allergic reaction and angioedema: severe swelling of the face, arms, legs, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Serious kidney problems: unexpected weight gain, edema in your hands, ankles, or feet, and less frequent than usual urination.
• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia): heart palpitations, irregular heartbeats, muscle weakness, chest pain, and nausea.
• Serious liver issues: dark or brown urine, disorientation, yellowing of the skin (jaundice) or whites of the eyes, and abdominal pain.

Before starting Prinivil, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including if you have:

• Low blood pressure (hypotension).
• Low number of white blood cells.
• A diet low in salt.
• Diabetes.
• Liver disease.
• Kidney disease, or if you're receiving dialysis.
• Used potassium supplements and salt substitutes.
• An allergy to lisinopril or any other ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor, including trandolapril, captopril, fosinopril, enalapril, benazepril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, or ramipril.
• Used Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan) within the past 36 hours.
• Taken aliskiren and have diabetes.

Boxed Warning

• Do not take Prinivil if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking this medication, call your doctor immediately as it may harm your unborn baby.

It will not be safe for you to use lisinopril (Zestril) if you have any of the following conditions or if any of the following apply to you. Please inform your healthcare practitioner of this.

• A history of angioedema.
• Taking aliskiren (Tekturna) and have high blood sugar levels.
• Taking neprilysin inhibitors, including Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan), concurrently or within 36 hours of taking them.

An hour or so after taking lisinopril, most people will start to feel a decrease in their blood pressure. However, you may not see the full impact on your blood pressure for up to six hours. You will need to take lisinopril daily to maintain long-term blood pressure control because each dose only lasts for 24 hours.

When Prinivil is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

• A diuretic or "water pill" like amiloride, triamterene, or spironolactone that may raise blood potassium levels.
• NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) include celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, naproxen (Aleve), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), and aspirin, among others.
• Insulin or drugs for diabetes.
• Drugs like temsirolimus, sirolimus, or everolimus that stop organ transplant rejection.
• Antihypertensive (blood pressure) or cardiovascular medicines.

High Blood Pressure (hypertension):

Adults: Depending on whether you're already taking a diuretic, the usual starting dose is 5–10 mg taken orally once daily. The usual maintenance dose of lisinopril is between 20 and 40 mg.

Children six years of age and up: The dose for your child will be decided by their healthcare practitioner based on their body weight. Up to 5 mg of lisinopril, or 0.07 mg/kg of body weight, is usually taken orally once daily as the first dosage. The daily maximum dosage of lisinopril is 0.61 mg/kg or up to 40 mg.

Heart Failure:

Adults: Five milligrams taken orally once a day is the usual first dosage. 40 mg once daily is the maximum dosage.

Adults with heart attacks: 5 mg taken orally once daily for two days is the usual dosage. After that, take 10 mg every day for at least six weeks.

Take the medication as soon as you can after missing a dose, but if your next dose is almost due, skip the missed dose. Avoid taking two doses at once.

Store your Prinivil at room temperature and out of reach of children.
