Rectiv

The active ingredient in Rectiv is nitroglycerin, which is a nitrate. When applied inside your anus, the mechanism of action works by relaxing the muscles around the area. This reduces pressure on the anal sphincter, relieving pain and allowing fissures (small skin rips) to heal more quickly. This medication is a part of the vasodilator drug class.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Rectiv. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Rectiv:

• Rectiv can produce severe headaches. Consult your doctor before taking any medication for headaches.
• It may be up to three weeks before your symptoms improve. Continue to use Rectiv as advised, and notify your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or worsen while using it.
• Cover your finger with plastic wrap, a surgical glove, or a finger cot when applying Rectiv.
• Squeeze 1 inch of ointment onto the covered finger, following the line on the prescription package.
• In a sitting position, spread the ointment intra-anally with your finger within the anal canal until it reaches the first finger joint (dosing line). If inserting a finger hurts too much, apply the ointment straight to the rectum exterior region of the anus.
• After use, discard the finger covering and wash your hands.

Some mild and common side effects of nitroglycerin seen in clinical trials as compared to placebo include:

• Headaches.
• Dizziness.
• Lightheadedness due to low blood pressure (hypotension).

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Rectiv. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Allergic reaction to the medication, such as hives, skin rash, chest pain, and swelling of the face.
• Methemoglobinemia has been rarely reported with organic nitrates. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, and blue skin or lips.

Before starting Rectiv, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including:

• Severe anemia (a lack of red blood cells).
• Increased pressure inside the skull.
• Use erectile dysfunction medication such as Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, Stendra, Staxyn, sildenafil, avanafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil.
• Congestive heart failure.
• Heart attack.
• Blood vessel disorders.
• Low blood pressure.
• High blood pressure.
• Severe headaches.

• Taking PDE5 inhibitors.
• Severe low red blood cell count (anaemia).
• Increased intracranial pressure.
• Nitrate or nitrite allergy.

Everyone's anal fissure healing period varies. While nitroglycerin (Rectiv) can help reduce discomfort caused by anal fissures, a limited trial found that it did not speed up the healing of anal fissures when compared to persons who received a placebo. So, if you're still experiencing issues after three weeks of utilising nitroglycerin (Rectiv), notify your doctor.

When Rectiv is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

• Aspirin or heparin.
• Medicine is used to treat blood clots, such as tissue-type plasminogen activators (t-PAs).
• Blood pressure medication.

• Other nitroglycerin medications.

Apply an inch of ointment to the anus every 12 hours for up to three weeks.
