What is a generic medication?

Generic medications are significantly discounted copies of brand name medication that have the same active ingredients, intended use, dosage, side effects, effects, and route of administration as the original brand name medication. Methyldopa/Hydrochlorothiazide Drug Information

  • Aldoril Overview

Aldoril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.methyldopa and hydrochlorothiazide. Methyldopa works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a "water pill" (diuretic). It increases the amount of urine you make, especially when you first start the medication. It also helps to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. These medications are used together when 1 drug alone is not controlling your blood pressure. Your doctor may direct you to start taking the individual medications first, and then switch you over to this combination product if this is the best dose combination for you.

  • How to Use Aldoril

Take Aldoril by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 3 times daily. It is best to avoid taking Aldoril within 4 hours of your bedtime to avoid having to get up to urinate. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about your dosing schedule. Your Dosage of Aldoril is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use Aldoril regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day. It is important to continue taking Aldoril even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. If you also take certain drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), take Aldoril at least 4 hours before or at least 4 to 6 hours after these medications. When Aldoril is used for a long time, it may not work as well. Talk with your doctor if Aldoril stops working well (such as your blood pressure readings remain high or increase).

  • Aldoril Precautions

Before taking Aldoril, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to methyldopa or hydrochlorothiazide; or if you have any other allergies. Aldoril may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using Aldoril, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, gout, lupus, untreated mineral imbalance (such as low potassium), pheochromocytoma, low red blood count (anemia), a certain genetic condition (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency), skin cancer. Aldoril may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis). Too much sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting may cause loss of too much body water (dehydration) and increase your risk of dizziness or lightheadedness. Report prolonged diarrhea or vomiting to your doctor. Be sure to drink enough fluids to prevent dehydration unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products). If you have diabetes, Aldoril may affect your blood sugar. Check your blood sugar regularly as directed and share the results with your doctor. Tell your doctor right away if you have symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst/urination. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet. Aldoril may reduce the potassium levels in your blood. Ask your doctor about adding potassium to your diet. A potassium supplement may be prescribed by your doctor. Aldoril may make you more sensitive to the sun. It may also increase your risk for skin cancer, especially if you take it for a long time. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned, have skin blisters/redness, or notice new or changed moles/skin lesions. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of Aldoril, especially dizziness (more likely when standing up), fainting, or depression. Dizziness and fainting can increase the risk of falling. During pregnancy, Aldoril should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Aldoril passes into breast milk but is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, tranylcypromine) during treatment with Aldoril. Most MAO inhibitors should also not be taken for two weeks before treatment with Aldoril. Ask your doctor when to start or stop taking Aldoril. • Aldoril Side Effects

    What are Aldoril side effects?

Side effects are physical, mental or emotional symptoms which occur in addition to or outside of the desired effect of a therapeutic treatment such as an over-the-counter or prescribed drug or medication. Side effects from Aldoril may occur at the beginning or at the end of treatment and may also depend on the length of time an individual remains on the treatment. Side effects, also known as adverse effects, are generally more likely to occur when starting treatment. Individuals may also experience side effects from Aldoril as a result of an interaction with other medications.

    Side Effects of Aldoril

The side effects of Aldoril may vary in number and intensity for many different reasons. Factors such as age, weight, gender and ethnicity may influence the side effects of Aldoril. Also, an individual’s state of general physical health and seriousness of the disease or illness as well as an increase or decrease in dosage may lead to side effects. Further, side effects from Aldoril may also occur as a result of an interaction with certain herbal supplements, foods or drinks.
