Ceclor

The active ingredient in Ceclor is cefaclor. Cefaclor is a cephalosporin antibiotic in the drug class known as second-generation cephalosporins. It treats bacterial infections by stopping bacteria from forming a strong cell wall. Without this protection, gram-positive and certain gram-negative bacteria are unable to survive. Because it targets bacterial growth, Ceclor will not work for viral infections such as colds or the flu.

When Ceclor is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Probenecid, which may increase cefaclor levels.

Warfarin may increase bleeding risk when combined with Ceclor.

Antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, which may reduce absorption of Ceclor. These should not be taken within 1 hour of Ceclor.

Brand name Ceclor is available as capsules containing 250mg or 500mg of cefaclor or as a liquid suspension containing either 120mg/5mL, 250mg/5mL, or 375mg/mL cefaclor.

The capsules should be stored at room temperature away from the reach of children. For the suspension, it must be refrigerated and used within 14 days.
