What is a generic medication?

Generic medications are significantly discounted copies of brand name medication that have the same active ingredients, intended use, dosage, side effects, effects, and route of administration as the original brand name medication. In other words, generic medications have the same pharmacological effects as their brand-name counterparts. Over half of all prescribed medications are for generic medications.

Demeclocycline hydrochloride Drug Information

  • Declomycin Overview

Demeclocycline is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including those that cause acne. Declomycin is known as a tetracycline antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.

  • How to Use Declomycin

Take Declomycin by mouth, usually 2 to 4 times a day or as directed by your doctor. Demeclocycline works best when taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Take each dose with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking Declomycin. For this reason, do not take it right before bedtime. If stomach upset occurs, ask your doctor if you can take Declomycin with food. Take Declomycin 2 to 3 hours before or after taking any medications containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium. Some examples include quinapril, certain forms of didanosine (chewable/dispersible buffered tablets or pediatric oral solution), vitamins/minerals, and antacids. Dairy products (e.g., milk, yogurt), calcium-enriched juice, sucralfate, bismuth subsalicylate, iron, and zinc are also included. These products bind with demeclocycline, preventing its full absorption. The Dosage of Declomycin is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. When treating children over 8 years of age, the Dosage of Declomycin is also based on weight. For the treatment of infection, children should not take more than 600 milligrams of Declomycin per day. For the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take Declomycin at the same time(s) every day. If you are taking Declomycin to treat an infection, continue to take it until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. If you are using Declomycin to treat SIADH, you should notice an increase in the amount of urine within 5 days.

  • Declomycin Side Effects

    What are Declomycin side effects?

Side effects are physical, mental or emotional symptoms which occur in addition to or outside of the desired effect of a therapeutic treatment such as an over-the-counter or prescribed drug or medication. Side effects from Declomycin may occur at the beginning or at the end of treatment and may also depend on the length of time an individual remains on the treatment. Side effects, also known as adverse effects, are generally more likely to occur when starting treatment. Individuals may also experience side effects from Declomycin as a result of an interaction with other medications.

    Side Effects of Declomycin

The side effects of Declomycin may vary in number and intensity for many different reasons. Factors such as age, weight, gender and ethnicity may influence the side effects of Declomycin. Also, an individual’s state of general physical health and seriousness of the disease or illness as well as an increase or decrease in dosage may lead to side effects. Further, side effects from Declomycin may also occur as a result of an interaction with certain herbal supplements, foods or drinks.

Prescription drug side effects can be serious and may cause patients to stop the treatment. However, when side effects from the use of a prescription drug, such as Declomycin, do occur a patient should consult their physician. A physician may prescribe an additional treatment in order to control the symptoms or an adjustment in the dosage may be made. In addition, changes to diet, exercise or other lifestyle activities may help to lessen the side effects of Declomycin.

By understanding side effects and the factors which may influence the occurrence of side effects patients are empowered to take an active role in their care. Patients who have specific questions about the side effects of Declomycin, or any other medication, should contact their physician.
