Jalyn

The active ingredients in Jalyn are tamsulosin hydrochloride and dutasteride. The 2 medications work in different ways to improve symptoms of BPH.

Dutasteride belongs to the 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor drug class. The mechanism of action involves inhibiting 5-alpha reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is the hormone responsible for prostate enlargement. Dutasteride reduces DHT levels, which prevents this from happening.

Tamsulosin HCl is an alpha blocker. It inhibits alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscle of your prostate. Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making urine flow easier.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using $Drugname. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of $Drugname:

• Take this medication 30 minutes after a meal, at the same time every day.
• Swallow the Jalyn capsule whole, without crushing, chewing, breaking, or opening it.
• You will require medical testing to determine your prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level.
• Do not donate blood while taking dutasteride/tamsulosin or for at least 6 months after your last dose

Some mild and common side effects of dutasteride seen in clinical trials include:

• Erectile dysfunction (impotence).
• Decreased libido (lower sex drive).
• Lightheadedness.
• Ejaculation disorders.
• Runny nose.
• Breast enlargement and breast tenderness.
• Dizziness, lightheadedness, and syncope (fainting) from low blood pressure upon standing (orthostatic hypotension).

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Jalyn. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Prolonged and undesired erections (priapism).
• Serious allergic reaction to the medication, such as hives, skin rash, or swelling.
• Eye problems during and after cataract surgery (intraoperative floppy iris syndrome).
• Increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer. Monitor prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels (set a new baseline PSA level after 3–6 months of treatment).

Before starting Jalyn, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including if you have:

• Allergies to dutasteride, finasteride, tamsulosin, or other related medications, such as alfuzosin, doxazosin, prazosin, silodosin, or terazosin.
• High blood pressure.
• Prostate cancer.
• Glaucoma or other eye problems.
• An allergy to sulfa medications.
• End-stage renal disease.
• Hepatic impairment.

• Currently pregnant.
• Allergy to Jalyn (dutasteride/tamsulosin).

It may take three months to experience improvement in your BPH symptoms. It is critical that you continue to take Jalyn (dutasteride/tamsulosin) every day, even if your symptoms do not improve immediately.

When Jalyn is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change their blood levels or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

• Ketoconazole.
• Ritonavir.
• Cimetidine.
• Erythromycin.
• Diltiazem.
• Paroxetine.
• Terbinafine.
• PDE-5 inhibitors like sildenafil or tadalafil.
• Warfarin.
• Avodart.
• Verapamil.
• Other CYP3A4 inhibitors and CYP2D6 inhibitors.
• This may not be a complete list of medicines that can interact with dutasteride/tamsulosin. Always check with your healthcare provider.

The average dose is one capsule taken by mouth about 30 minutes after the same meal. Each pill has 0.5 mg of dutasteride and 0.4 mg of tamsulosin.

High temperatures may deform and/or discolor capsules; discard if this occurs.

If you miss a dose of Jalyn, take your dose as soon as you can, but only within 30 minutes after a meal. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.

Store at room temperature and keep out of reach of children.

There are several lower-cost versions of Jalyn available.

You should not discontinue taking Jalyn (dutasteride/tamsulosin) without consulting your doctor first. This prescription is used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate, and discontinuing abruptly may cause urinary symptoms (such as difficulty urinating or increased frequency) to reappear.

Women should not take this drug as it may cause birth defects. A pregnant or potentially pregnant woman should not handle Jalyn capsules. It can be absorbed through the skin and cause damage to an unborn male baby's genitals. If a pregnant woman accidentally touches a capsule, they need to immediately wash their hands with soap and water.

Jalyn is not indicated for use in females.
