Lumigan UDV

The active ingredient in Lumigan UDV is bimatoprost, a prostaglandin. It helps drain fluid from the eyes and lower eye pressure.

However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Lumigan UDV:

1. Wash your hands before and after each use.

2. Tear one vial from the strip, and twist off the cap.

3. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch your eye, fingers, or any other surface to avoid contamination.

4. To apply the drops, tilt your head up and pull down on your lower eyelid of the affected eye while looking up. Then, squeeze the vial to release one drop of the solution into your eye.

5. Following administration, close your eyes gently and hold pressure on your tear duct (inner corner of your eye, by your nose) for 30 seconds. Then repeat for the other eye if needed.

6. If you use more than one eye drop, wait at least 5 minutes between administrations.

7. It is recommended to apply the drops in the evening due to side effects (blurred vision) and increased contact time during sleep.

8. If you wear soft contact lenses, you do not need to remove them before using this product, as it does not contain the preservative benzalkonium chloride.

9. Dispose of the vial, even if there is medication remaining.

10. Do not use past the expiration date.

Some mild or common side effects of Lumigan UDV seen in clinical trials include:

• Eye redness.
• Dry eyes.
• Eye pain at the instillation site.
• Eye discharge.
• Itchy eyes (pruritus).

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Lumigan UDV. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Color changes (brown pigmentation) or darkening of the iris, eyelid, and eyelashes.
• Eyelash changes, including an increased number of eyelashes, increased length/thickness, or disordered growth.
• Eye problems, including eye irritation, eye pain during administration, or blurry/ wavy vision consistent with macular edema.
• Eye infection, including bacterial keratitis, which is less likely if you take care not to touch the dropper tip to any surface/ skin.
• Serious life-threatening allergic reactions, which may present as skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, mouth, or tongue, and/ or trouble breathing (anaphylaxis).

These are not all of the possible side effects of Lumigan UDV. Before starting Lumigan UDV, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, such as:

• Recent eye surgery.
• Problems with your cornea.
• Swelling in your eyes (iritis or uveitis).
• Lack of or a false posterior lens capsule in your eye.
• History of herpetic keratitis, or active herpes simplex keratitis.

Hypersensitivity or allergy to bimatoprost or any of the inactive ingredients in the product.

Lumigan should have its full effect within a few hours of administration.

When Lumigan UDV is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions.

• Other eye drops containing prostaglandins, such as bimatoprost, should not be used at the same time as Lumigan UDV due to additive effects.

Brand name Lumigan UDV is provided as 0.4mL vials containing 0.03% bimatoprost, in packs containing 30 vials.

It should be stored at room temperature away from the reach of children or pets.

No, there is no generic version available, but latanoprost (Xalatan) is another prostaglandin eye drop available.

Barring any serious side effects as listed above, you should not discontinue this medication unless under the advice of a physician.

There are no well-controlled studies of Lumigan UDV use during pregnancy. We have not seen an increase in risk of major birth defects or miscarriages based on bimatoprost post-marketing experience.

However, talk to your doctor if you are already pregnant or if you have any plans to become pregnant. They will know or recommend what is best for you.

It is not known whether netarsudil or bimatoprost are found in breast milk, and careful risk vs benefit consideration should be made before use during breastfeeding.
