Important information about Omnicef
How does Omnicef work?
The active ingredient in Omnicef is cefdinir, which is a third-generation cephalosporin. The mechanism of action involves interfering with a bacteria's ability to make a cell wall, resulting in its death.
How do you use Omnicef?
Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Omnicef. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Omnicef:
- Before measuring a dose of the oral suspension, shake it well. Use a medication dose-measuring tool (not a kitchen spoon) or the supplied dosing syringe.
- This medication can be used with or without food.
- Even if your symptoms go away right away, take this medication for the entire recommended duration of time. Medication-resistant infections can become more likely if you miss doses. A viral infection like the flu or a common cold cannot be treated with Omnicef.
- The findings of some medical tests may be impacted by Omnicef. Inform any medical professional you see that you take Omnicef.

The most common side effects of Omnicef include:
- Diarrhea.
- Nausea.

You can also report adverse effects to the Food and Drug Administration at www.fda.gov/medwatch or 1-800-FDA-1088.
