• This medication can be used with or without food.
• Even if your symptoms go away right away, take this medication for the entire recommended duration of time. Medication-resistant infections can become more likely if you miss doses. A viral infection like the flu or a common cold cannot be treated with Omnicef.
• The findings of some medical tests may be impacted by Omnicef. Inform any medical professional you see that you take Omnicef.

The most common side effects of Omnicef include:

• Diarrhea.
• Nausea.
• Stomach pain or cramping.
• Skin rash.
• Loss of appetite.
• Vaginal yeast infection.

Before starting Omnicef, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including if you have:

• Kidney disease or other kidney problems.
• Intestinal issues, such as colitis.
• A medication allergy, particularly to penicillins or cephalosporins.
• Sucrose is an ingredient in Omnicef oral suspension. If you have diabetes, see your physician before using this type of cefdinir.
• If you take aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids, multivitamins, or iron supplements, you should take cefdinir at least two hours before or after these things.
• Cefdinir will not work for viral infections, such as the common cold, influenza, or coronavirus. It also will not work for any other non-bacterial infections.

• Severe allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Omnicef and other antibiotics typically take a few days to begin to work. Remember that the severity of the infection and how long it takes for your symptoms to go away might also affect how long it takes for antibiotic treatment to work. Do not stop taking Omnicef without first talking to your healthcare provider.

When Omnicef is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

• Probenecid.
• Iron-containing vitamin or mineral supplements.
• Aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids.

Ages 13 and up (just for capsules):

For five to ten days, the usual dosage is 300 mg taken orally every twelve hours.

You may be able to use 600 mg once a day for 10 days to treat some infections, such as tonsil infections, strep throat, sinus infections, and bronchitis-related illnesses.

6-month-olds to children under 13 (oral suspension only):

The dosage is determined by the weight of your child. For five to ten days, the usual dosage is 7 mg/kg of body weight taken orally every twelve hours.

Your child may be able to take a greater dose (14 mg/kg) once daily for 10 days for some illnesses, such as tonsil, strep throat, sinus, and middle ear infections.

If you miss a dose of Omnicef, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Avoid taking two doses at once.

Store Omnicef capsules at room temperature and out of reach of children. Store the oral suspension at room temperature for up to 10 days. After 10 days, throw away the bottle, even if there's still some medication left.

Even if you feel better after the first few doses, continue taking this medication for the duration of your treatment. If you stop taking the medication too soon, your infection will not go away.
