Important information about Trusopt Preservative Free

How does Trusopt Preservative Free work?

The active ingredient in Trusopt PF is dorzolamide hydrochloride, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Its mechanism of action involves reducing the amount of fluid in the cornea of the eye to reduce eye pressure.

How do you use Trusopt Preservative Free?

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Trusopt PF. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Trusopt PF:

1. Wash your hands before and after each use.

2. Open the foil pouch and break off one pipette from the strip. Twist open the top.

3. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch your eye, fingers, or any other surface. This will help avoid contamination with bacteria that can cause eye infections and lead to severe eye damage or loss of vision.

4. To apply the drops, tilt your head up and pull down on your lower eyelid of the affected eye with your index finger while looking up. Squeeze the bottle to release one drop of the solution into your eye.

5. Following administration, close your eyes gently and hold pressure on your tear duct (inner corner of your eye, by your nose) for two minutes. Then repeat for the other eye if needed. Each pipette contains enough solution for both eyes.

6. If you use more than one eye drop, wait at least 10 minutes between administrations.

7. Discard the empty pipette after use, and store the remaining ones back in the foil pouch. The others must be used within 15 days.

8. It is recommended to apply the drops in the evening due to side effects (blurred vision) and increased contact time during sleep.

9. If you wear contact lenses, you do not need to remove them before administering these eye drops. These eye drops do not contain a preservative.

What are the side effects of Trusopt Preservative Free?

Some mild or common side effects of dorzolamide eye drops include:

  • Temporary blurred vision.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Bitter taste.
  • Dry eyes, eye irritation, or eye pain.
  • Eye redness (conjunctivitis)
  • Eye discharge or eyelid crusting (keratitis).

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Trusopt PF. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

  • Serious life-threatening hypersensitivity or allergic reactions, which may present as skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, mouth, or tongue, and/ or trouble breathing (anaphylaxis).
  • Increased risk of swelling of the cornea (corneal edema).

These are not all of the possible side effects of Trusopt PF eye drops. You should always seek medical advice from your healthcare provider for any questions or concerns about your medical condition or treatment. Read all patient information, medication guides, or drug information sheets that come with this medication. You can also report adverse effects to the Food and Drug Administration at www.fda.gov/medwatch or 1-800-FDA-1088.

What are the warnings or precautions for Trusopt Preservative Free?

Before starting Trusopt PF, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including:

  • An upcoming major surgery or eye surgery.

Are there any contraindications with Trusopt Preservative Free?

How long does it take Trusopt Preservative Free to work?

It will take several weeks before the full effect is seen.

What interacts with Trusopt Preservative Free?

When Trusopt PF is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions.

  • Oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as acetazolamide may have an additive effect when combined with these eye drops.
  • Trusopt may reduce the efficacy of salicylates such as acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and increase the side effects of Trusopt.

What doses of Trusopt Preservative Free are available?
