Tindamax

The active ingredient in Tindamax is tinidazole, which is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent similar to metronidazole (Flagyl).

• Take Tindamax with food.

• Shake the oral suspension (liquid). Use the supplied syringe or dose-measuring instrument (not a household spoon).
• Do not share Tindamax with anyone, even if they have the same symptoms you have.
• If you are treating a sexually transmitted infection, make sure your sexual partner obtains medical treatment as well.
• Continue taking Tindamax even if your symptoms resolve fast. Skipping medications may make your infection resistant to treatment. Tindamax does not treat viral infections (such as the flu or the common cold).

Boxed Warning

Carcinogenesis has been observed in mice and rats treated persistently with metronidazole, another nitroimidazole drug. Although analogous data have not been reported with tinidazole, the two medicines are chemically related and have comparable biological effects.

• Hypersensitivity to the medication or other nitroimidazole medications like metronidazole (Flagyl).
• People with Cockayne syndrome.

Tindamax begins acting immediately after the initial dose, as it quickly reaches effective levels in the body. Most patients notice an improvement in their symptoms within a few days, though the exact timing varies depending on the nature and severity of the illness. Single-dose therapies (such as trichomoniasis) may eliminate the infection in a matter of days, whereas longer courses (such as giardiasis or amebiasis) may take up to a week to complete.

When Tindamax is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. • Disulfiram (Antabuse, taken during the previous two weeks).
• Fluorouracil.
• Ketoconazole.

• Any medicine containing ethanol or propylene glycol.

Tindamax (tinidazole) is available in the following dosage form and strength: 500mg oral tablets.

The dose is based on the infection being treated:

Trichomoniasis: Take 2 grams (four 500 mg tablets) once with food.

For bacterial vaginosis, take 2 grams once daily for two days or 1 gram once daily for five days.

Giardiasis: Take 2 grams once a day for three days.

Amebiasis: Take 2 grams once daily for 3 days (intestinal) or up to 5 days (amebic hepatic abscess).

To reduce stomach upset, take Tindamax with food and follow your doctor's exact instructions for duration and dosage.
