Important information about Eurax Cream

The active ingredient in Eurax cream is crotamiton. It works by helping relieve itch and also acts against the mites that cause scabies. This helps reduce symptoms such as itchy skin, rash, and irritation.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Eurax cream. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Eurax cream:

  • If you are using the lotion, shake the bottle well before use.
  • For scabies: Apply Eurax cream to the entire body from the chin down, including all affected areas. A second application is usually made after 24 hours. Bathe 48 hours after the last application.
  • For pruritus or itchy dermatitis: Apply to the affected area and gently massage into the skin. It may be applied 2 to 3 times daily as needed for itch relief.
  • Do not apply to broken skin, irritated skin, or mucous membranes such as the eyes or mouth.
  • If you miss a dose, apply it when you remember. If it is close to your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as usual. Do not apply extra cream.
  • Use caution in children, especially those under 3 years of age.
  • Eurax cream contains ingredients such as stearyl alcohol and methyl hydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions in some individuals.
  • Do not use on conditions like chickenpox, sunburn, or severe skin irritation unless directed by a healthcare professional.

Some mild or common side effects of Eurax cream seen in clinical trials as compared to placebo include:

  • Skin irritation.
  • Skin rash.
  • Worsening dermatitis or eczema.
  • Dry skin.

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Eurax cream. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

  • Allergic reactions, such as hives or swelling of the face.

These are not all of the possible side effects of Eurax cream. You should always seek medical advice from your healthcare provider for any questions or concerns about your medical condition or treatment. Read all patient information, medication guides, or drug information sheets that come with this medication. You can also report adverse effects to the Food and Drug Administration at www.fda.gov/medwatch or 1-800-FDA-1088.

Before starting Eurax cream, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions.

Do not use Eurax cream if you have a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to crotamiton or any of the ingredients.

Relief of itching may occur shortly after application, but full treatment for scabies may require multiple applications as directed.

Because crotamiton works locally and is not significantly absorbed, drug interactions are unlikely. However, inform your health care professional about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements you are taking.

The cream and lotion contain 10% (w/w) of crotamiton, and is available in 60g tubes (cream) or for the lotion, bottles containing 60g (2oz.) or 454g (16oz.).

Store Eurax cream at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

It is manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb.

No, but crotamiton is also available under the brand name Crotan.

Stop using Eurax cream and seek medical help if severe skin irritation, allergic reactions, or worsening symptoms occur. Otherwise, use as directed by your healthcare provider.
