Besivance

The active ingredient in Besivance is besifloxacin hydrochloride, which is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It acts by inhibiting specific proteins that bacteria require for growth, repair of their genetic material (DNA), and survival. By inhibiting this process, Besivance destroys bacteria.

However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Besivance:

• Avoid using while wearing soft contact lenses. A preservative in this medication may permanently discolour the lenses. Apply the medication at least 15 minutes before placing your contact lenses.
• Prior to applying eye medicine, wash your hands.
• How to apply Besivance eye drops:
• Before each use, turn the bottle upside down and shake it.
• Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to form a little pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye, tip down. As you squeeze a drop, look up and away from the dropper before closing your eyes.
• Gently press your finger to the inside corner of your eye (near your nose) for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from leaking into your tear duct.
• Avoid letting the dropper tip come into contact with the surface of the eye, especially your eyes or hands. If the dropper becomes contaminated, it may induce an infection in your eye, perhaps resulting in vision loss or serious eye damage.

Some mild and common side effects of Besivance include:

• Eye redness.
• Blurred vision.
• Eye irritation.
• Eye itching.
• Eye pain.

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Besivance. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Allergic reaction to the medication, such as hives or a skin rash.

Before starting Besivance, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including:

• Besivance can cause serious adverse effects such as eye discharge or crusting, severe eye irritation, the sensation that something is in your eye, eye redness or swelling, fever, or symptoms of a new eye infection.
• Continue to use Besivance for the full duration of the prescription. Your symptoms may improve before the virus is fully resolved.
• Do not use this medication if you are wearing contact lenses. This medication may contain a preservative that is absorbed by soft contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after applying Besivance before inserting your contact lenses.
• You should not wear contact lenses if you are still experiencing active symptoms of the eye infection you are treating.
