Important information about Micatin Spray

How does Micatin Spray work?

The active ingredient in Micatin Spray is miconazole nitrate. It is an antifungal medication that works by decreasing the production of ergosterol, which helps kill the fungus. Through this mechanism, Micatin Spray effectively treats athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Other products containing miconazole can also be used to treat yeast infections, such as Monistat.

How do you use Micatin Spray?

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide, before using Micatin Spray. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Micatin Spray:

  • To use Micatin Spray, shake the can well before using. Clean the skin with soap and water and dry the area. From a distance of 6 to 10 inches, spray a thin layer onto the affected area twice a day, morning and night. For athlete's foot, ensure you spray between the toes. Continue treatment for 1 to 2 weeks after symptoms have resolved, up to a maximum of 4 weeks. Treatment for athlete’s foot usually takes 4 weeks, and jock itch and ringworm typically take 2 weeks to resolve.
  • If there is no improvement after 2 weeks of use, please see your healthcare professional.
  • If you miss a dose, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue treatment.
  • Do not use Micatin Spray in the presence of an open flame or spark.
  • Micatin Spray is for external use only.
  • Micatin Spray is talc-free and odor-free.

What are the side effects of Micatin Spray?

The most common side effects of Micatin Spray include:

  • Itching, peeling, or dry skin.

  • Severe blistering, redness, or irritation of the skin.
  • Allergic reaction. Signs include hives, rash, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue.

These are not all of the possible side effects of Micatin Spray. You should always seek medical advice from your healthcare provider for any questions or concerns about your medical condition or treatment. Read all patient information, medication guides, or drug information sheets that come with this medication. You can also report adverse effects to the Food and Drug Administration at www.fda.gov/medwatch or 1-800-FDA-1088.
