• If you are using a stomach acid reducer (Tagamet, Pepcid, Axid, Zantac, and others), take Sporanox with an acidic liquid like non-diet cola.
• Even if your symptoms resolve fast, continue to take this medication for the full duration recommended. Skipping doses increases your risk of developing a drug-resistant infection. Itraconazole does not treat viral infections like the flu or the common cold.

• Hearing loss includes muted hearing and trouble understanding speech.
• Allergic reaction to the medication, such as hives or a skin rash, swelling, and trouble breathing.

Boxed Warning

Itraconazole can cause or exacerbate congestive heart failure (CHF); hence, it should not be used to treat nail infections in patients with a history of ventricular dysfunction. If CHF symptoms emerge while on treatment, the medication's continuing use should be reconsidered. Itraconazole, a powerful CYP3A4 inhibitor, has a number of contraindications, including interactions with methadone, quinidine, certain cardiac medicines, ergot alkaloids, some statins, and sedatives such as midazolam and triazolam. It is also contraindicated with some medicines in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, as well as those with low CYP2D6 metabolisers. These interactions can significantly raise medication levels, resulting in QT prolongation, arrhythmias, and other serious adverse effects.

• Heart failure.
• Certain drugs can interact with Itraconazole (Sporanox) oral solution.

For oral thrush, the normal dose is 200 mg (20 mL) taken by mouth once a day on an empty stomach for one to two weeks.

Oral thrush that did not respond to fluconazole: The standard dose is 100 mg (10 mL) by mouth twice a day on an empty stomach for 2–4 weeks.

For fungal infections in the esophagus, the normal dose is 100mg (10 mL) taken orally once a day on an empty stomach for at least 3 weeks. Treatment should continue for two weeks after symptoms have subsided. Your prescriber might raise the dose to 200 mg (20 mL) once a day based on how well the medication is working for you.
