Incruse Ellipta

The active ingredient in Incruse Ellipta is umeclidinium bromide, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA). It relaxes muscles in the airways to open them up and allow more air in. This eases symptoms of COPD and emphysema and prevents shortness of breath and wheezing. Umeclidinium continues to work on receptors in the airways for 24 hours to allow once-a-day dosing.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using Incruse Ellipta. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Incruse Ellipta:

-Remove the Ellipta inhaler device from the foil tray packaging. Keep the green cover closed until you are ready to use Incruse Ellipta.

-To prepare a dose, while holding the device upright, slide the green cover down with your thumb until you hear a click and the mouthpiece is exposed. The dose counter should go down by 1. If you drop or shake the device after preparing a dose, you will lose the dose and need to reload a new dose by closing the device and opening it again.

-With the inhaler away from your mouth, exhale fully.

-Make a seal with your lips around the mouthpiece and take a long, steady, deep breath in through your mouth.

-Hold your breath for as long as is comfortable, then exhale gently with your mouth away from the device.

-Close the green cover.

Incruse Ellipta is to be used once daily at the same time each day.

In the event of a missed dose, take your next dose when it is due. Do not double your dose.

The most common side effects of Incruse Ellipta include:

-Dry mouth

-Sore throat

-Symptoms of the common cold or an upper respiratory tract infection

-Joint pain

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Incruse Ellipta. These side effects may be life-threatening and require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

-Dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, tachycardia (fast heart rate), or irregular heartbeat: these signs may indicate that your body has absorbed too much umeclidinium.

-Any vision changes, including eye pain, blurred vision, or visual halos: Umeclidinium may worsen narrow-angle glaucoma

-Difficulty urinating or painful urination: umeclidinium may worsen urinary retention.

-Signs of a serious allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, swelling of the tongue or lips, hives.

These are not all of the possible side effects of Incruse Ellipta. Before starting Incruse Ellipta, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including:

-Liver or kidney problems: Incruse Ellipta has not been studied in people with these problems

-Heart problems such as atrial fibrillation

-Prostate problems or urinary retention

-Eye problems such as glaucoma

Rarely, the use of Incruse Ellipta could cause paradoxical bronchospasms (worsening breathing problems). In this case, you should not use the Incruse inhaler.

Incruse Ellipta is not a short-acting bronchodilator and is not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasms (COPD flares).

It is not indicated for the treatment of people less than 18 years of age.

It should not be used in people who have had allergic reactions to umeclidinium or any of the inactive ingredients of the formulation, such as magnesium stearate.

It should not be used in people who are allergic to lactose or milk proteins.

In clinical trials, umeclidinium started working within 56 minutes on average.

The interactions of Incruse Ellipta with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements are not well studied. When Incruse Ellipta is used with other medications, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including other anticholinergic medications such as ipratropium, tiotropium, atropine, or aclidinium.

Incruse Ellipta is an inhalation powder that contains 74.2 mcg of umeclidinium bromide (equivalent to 62.5 mcg of umeclidinium) in each dose.

Incruse Ellipta is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Inc. (GSK).

There is no generic version of brand-name Incruse Ellipta at this time.

LAMAs are typically used chronically. Speak with your doctor before stopping the use of Incruse Ellipta. The Ellipta device can be used for up to 6 weeks after it is taken out of the foil packaging.

The use of Incruse Ellipta in pregnancy has not been studied. Talk to your doctor if you are already pregnant or if you have any plans to become pregnant. They will know or recommend what is best for you.

It is not known if umeclidinium is excreted into breast milk. Talk to your doctor if you are already breastfeeding or if you have any plans to breastfeed. They will know or recommend what is best for you.
