(Etoricoxib)

The active ingredient in Arcoxia is etoricoxib. It works by selectively blocking the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme. This enzyme plays a key role in the production of prostaglandins, which are substances involved in pain, inflammation, and swelling. By inhibiting COX-2 while largely sparing COX-1, Arcoxia reduces pain and inflammation with less effect on platelets and the stomach lining compared to non-selective NSAIDs.

Arcoxia is taken by mouth as a tablet. It may be taken with or without food.

Take the tablet at the same time each day. If you miss a dose, take it when you remember, unless it is close to your next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

Some mild or common side effects of Arcoxia seen in clinical trials as compared to placebo include:

Headache.

Heartburn.

Mouth ulcers.

Swelling of the legs or ankles (oedema).

Dizziness or light-headedness.

High blood pressure.

Loss of appetite.

Blurred vision.

Some individuals may experience serious adverse events while using Arcoxia. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

Chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, or sudden weakness, which may indicate a heart attack or stroke.

Before starting Arcoxia, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including if you have:

Heart disease, heart failure, angina, or a history of heart attack or transient ischaemic attack.

High blood pressure or hypertension.

Peripheral arterial disease.

Liver disease.

Kidney problems.

A history of stomach ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding.

Allergic reactions to NSAIDs or selective COX-2 inhibitors.

Fluid retention or swelling of the legs.

Use of hormone replacement therapy.

Arcoxia is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to etoricoxib or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with active stomach ulcers, severe liver disease, severe heart failure, or established cardiovascular disease, such as a previous heart attack or stroke.

Arcoxia may begin to relieve pain and inflammation within a few hours after the first dose. Maximum benefit may be seen after several days of consistent use, depending on the condition being treated.

When Arcoxia is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Make sure that you tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking to avoid any negative drug interactions, including:

Warfarin, as Arcoxia may increase the risk of bleeding.

ACE inhibitors or diuretics, as Arcoxia may reduce their effectiveness and increase the risk of kidney problems.

Lithium, as Arcoxia may increase lithium levels in the blood.

Methotrexate, as Arcoxia may increase methotrexate levels and side effects.

Rifampicin may reduce the effectiveness of Arcoxia.

Low-dose aspirin may increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.

Other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac, as they may increase the risk of side effects.

It is available in tablets containing 30mg, 60mg, 90mg, or 120mg of etoricoxib.

It should be stored at room temperature, away from the reach of children or pets.
