Clobex Spray

(Clobetasol Propionate)

The active ingredient in Clobex Spray is clobetasol propionate. Clobetasol propionate is a high-potency topical corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching associated with inflammatory skin conditions such as severe plaque psoriasis and eczema when applied to the skin as directed.

However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of Clobex Spray:

• Apply the spray directly to the affected area of skin as prescribed, usually twice daily. Spray only enough medication to lightly cover the lesions or affected area. Gently rub the medication into the skin if directed by your healthcare provider. Wash hands after application unless your hands are the treated area.
• Clobex Spray is for external use on the skin only. Do not apply to the face, groin, or axillae unless specifically instructed.
• Do not use under occlusive dressings unless directed by a healthcare professional.
• Do not apply to broken skin or skin infections unless advised.
• The formulation is flammable and should be kept away from heat or open flame during and after application.

Some mild or common side effects of Clobex Spray seen in clinical trials as compared to placebo include:

• Dryness of the treated skin.
• Burning or stinging sensation.
• Itching or pruritus.
• Redness or erythema.
• Skin irritation or rash.
• Thinning of the skin or atrophy.

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using Clobex Spray. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

• Signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling, severe skin rash, or difficulty breathing.
• Severe skin irritation, blistering, or worsening lesions.
• Stretch marks or visible blood vessels on the skin.
• Symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome such as weight gain, fatigue, or swelling of the face.
• Signs of adrenal suppression include weakness, dizziness, or nausea.
• Vision changes that may be linked to glaucoma or cataracts.
• Evidence of skin infection at the treated site.

Before starting Clobex Spray, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including if you have:

• Severe plaque psoriasis affecting large body surface areas.
• Skin infections, including bacterial, fungal, or viral infections.
• A history of adrenal gland disorders or HPA axis suppression.
• Glaucoma or cataracts.
• Thinning skin, easy bruising, or previous steroid-related skin damage.
• Perioral dermatitis or rosacea.
• Known sensitivity to topical corticosteroids.

• Known hypersensitivity to clobetasol propionate or any component of the formulation.
• Untreated skin infections at the site of application.
• Use on the face, groin, or axillae unless specifically directed.
• Use in children or adolescents, as safety has not been established.-

Many people notice improvement in redness, itching, and scaling within one to two weeks of starting treatment. Maximum improvement is usually seen by the end of the prescribed treatment course based on the pharmacokinetics. If symptoms do not improve or worsen, seek medical advice.

When Clobex Spray is taken with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, it may change how they work or increase the frequency or severity of side effects. Clobex Spray contains clobetasol propionate 0.05%. It is supplied as a topical spray solution in bottles measured in fluid ounces (fl oz). The amount applied should be limited to the minimum needed to cover affected areas. There are other dosage forms, including Clobex Shampoo and Lotions.

Clobex Spray should be stored at room temperature. Keep away from heat and open flames due to its flammable formulation. It should be stored at room temperature, away from the reach of children or pets.

Clobex Spray is manufactured and marketed by Galderma.

Generic clobetasol propionate topical spray products may be available. These contain the same active ingredient and are considered therapeutically equivalent when used as directed.

Do not stop using Clobex Spray earlier than prescribed unless directed by your healthcare provider. Treatment is usually stopped after the recommended duration. Do not restart or extend use without medical advice, as prolonged use increases the risk of adverse effects.

Talk to your doctor if you are already pregnant or if you have any plans to become pregnant. They will know or recommend what is best for you. Topical corticosteroids should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and for the shortest duration possible.
