Desowen Cream

Desonide cream is a low-potency topical corticosteroid that eases symptoms like itching and redness by calming the body’s inflammatory response.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor and read all documents provided, including the full Prescribing Information, FDA-Approved Product Labeling, Instructions for Use, and Medication Guide before using desonide cream. However, the following is a synopsis of the general guidelines for the use of desonide cream:

-Wash the affected skin with soap and water and pat it dry.

-Apply a thin film of desonide cream to the affected areas while avoiding thin skin or skin folds.

-Rub in the cream gently.

In the event of a missed dose, apply the next dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next dose at the scheduled time.

The most common side effects of desonide cream include:

-Skin irritation, Burning, or itching at the application site.

-Skin dryness or flaking.

-Changes in the pigmentation of the skin.

Some individuals may experience serious side effects while using desonide cream. These side effects may require immediate medical attention. If you experience any of the following, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical help:

-Skin thinning or stretch marks: This can occur after long-term use of desonide cream.

-Unexplained weakness and fatigue, nausea and vomiting, and low blood pressure. These can be signs of adrenal suppression (when your adrenal glands do not produce enough cortisol), which in turn can happen if desodine is applied to large areas, broken skin, over a long period of time, or under occlusive dressings.

-A worsening skin rash, hives, or swelling of the tongue and face. These can be signs of an allergic reaction.

Before starting desonide topical cream, it is crucial to discuss any existing health conditions with your healthcare provider. You should be sure that your healthcare provider is aware of all your medical conditions, including if you have Cushing’s syndrome, diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, broken skin at the application site, or a skin infection.

Desonide cream should not be used near or in the eyes.

If desonide is used on thin skin or with an occlusive dressing, it may be absorbed by the body and cause systemic side effects. Adrenal suppression, Cushing’s syndrome, glaucoma, and high blood sugar may result from systemic absorption of desonide.

The application of occlusive dressing or the long-term use of desonide can also cause atrophy of the skin, leading to stretch marks.

Desonide cream should not be used in untreated skin infections or in people who have had allergic reactions to desonide or other inactive ingredients of the formulation.

The safety and efficacy of desonide in pediatrics, specifically children less than 3 months of age, is not established.

Desonide cream may improve signs of inflammation within a few days to a week.

Desonide cream is not known to have drug interactions with other prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements. However, you should tell your healthcare professional about anything that you are taking, including other corticosteroids and other treatments for skin conditions.

Desonide cream is available as 0.05% strength.

Desonide cream can be stored at room temperature, out of the reach of children.

Desonide cream is the generic for several brand names, including DesOwen and Tridesilon.

Desonide may also be available in dosage forms such as ointments, foams, lotions, and topical gels.

Desonide should not be used long-term unless instructed by your doctor. Use desonide until the lesion resolves.

The safety of desonide in pregnancy is not established. Talk to your doctor if you are already pregnant or if you have any plans to become pregnant. They will know or recommend what is best for you.
